hungduan, ifugao

HUNGDUAN, IFUGAO

From the peak of Mt. Napulawan down to "Bogyah" Hot spring, i can say "there's no place like Hungduan". Hungduan, a 5th class municipality of Ifugao Province and was one of the UNESCO inscribed terraces aside from Kiangan, Mayoyao and Batad and Bangaan in Banaue. Bayanihan System is also practiced even to these days when technology is at its peak.

TOURIST SPOTS:

Mt. Napulawan
The Mystical Mt. Napulawan, where the known "Tiger of Malaya" General Tomoyuki Yamashita sought refuge during the war. It was also said that it is where the general buried his treasure. It was also the dubbed as the highest mountain in Luzon. The second tallest mountain in the province, towering 2,642 meters above sea level, was the final refuge of General Yamashita.

The Rice Terraces

The stonewalled Rice terraces of Hungduan make it different from the other Rice terraces from the province.

The Bogyah Hot Spring
When I was just a kid I used to ask the elders how the water from that spring keeps warm everyday and they will that a certain "Inhaybung" is keeps a fire underground as a result the stone above will be heated that will warm the water. It is said that the water from the hot spring can cure some skin diseases.

The Hapao River

Known as “Wangwang” its water is clear that you can see living creatures underneath. The water also is as fresh as distilled water that you can drink without any worries that you can catch illness with it. The river is also good for swimming and you can relax with the stone

FESTIVALS:

Tungoh ad Hungduan
Town fiesta adopting the cultural festival term "tungoh" or rest day, where the community celebrates the end of rice planting season.  A cultural festival of Hungduan featuring ethnic games, rituals, song, dances, ethnic parade and crafts-oriented activities. It is held at the Towns Municipal Hall where all is invited for the celebration.

Barangay Fiesta
Each Barangay celebrates its Barangay fiesta every year; this serves as a recreation for the people in the Barangay and sort of reunion for the people.

Youth Day
A homecoming affair for the Youth before the “Tungoh”, it is an affair especially for the youth studying from different provinces and student from the municipality. It features games and activities for the youth like ballgames, quiz bee and many more.

I can say that my place is not a city of dreams, where mega malls are just outside your house, that you can do shopping at your doorstep and that everything happens in just a flick of a hand. But the fact that people from Hungduan are hospitable, generous, kind and God-fearing makes me proud of my place.
